Just a few tips that I have picked up over the years
|
| Don't expect the planes to be on
time going or coming back. (Mine never have) |
| Don't eat unwashed fruit. |
| Don't let the midges get you.
Get some Brewers yeast tablets and start taking a
couple of weeks before you go. They
really work. |
| If you are taking children with you
please do not leave them around
the pool without protection from the sun. The sun
is so strong they will burn up. I have seen it happen.
Your holiday will be ruined. |
Things to do and take
|
| Drink plenty of water (bottled of
course) |
| Try to barter with the locals. They
always ask for far more than they are willing to take.
Be prepared to walk away, stick to your guns, most
times they will soon come running after you |
| Baksheesh. (a tip ) This
is the way of life in Egypt every time some
one does something for you they will expect baksheesh.
A few Egyptian pounds. 2 le is about 36p so you will
not be giving much away, and you will keep everyone
happy. |
| Try to organise some of the trips
yourself. It works out a lot cheaper than the tour
operator. Get another couple to join you and spread
the cost. The only drawback is that you will not have
a guide, be wise latch on to a group when you get
to where you are going. Lots of people do this. Why
not if money is short |
| Gippy Tummy. Most people tend to
have at least one day with a bad stomach and a night
on the toilet. So don't forget to take the Loperamide.
( You will get it at any drug store) |
| Eating out. A lot of people say do
not eat anywhere but in the Hotel. This use to be
the case many years ago but now there are quite a
few good local restaurants where you can get good
food at a fraction of the price at the Hotels.
Drawbacks. Not such a good menu |
| Sun Tan Lotion. Take plenty with
you as it is very expensive in Egypt. |
| Antihistamine cream. If you do get
bitten by the midges this can be brought from the
local pharmacy and it is cheaper in Egypt than in
the U K |
| Toilet Paper:
If you do have to go into a public toilet or in fact
the toilet at the Airport you will be asked to pay
for the paper. It is sometimes poked under the door
or a woman will offer it to you as you go in.You will
only get one piece so it pays to
carry some with you. |
